The Return Of The Ring

 The Hobbit: 70th Anniversary Edition

Yaaaaay!

Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson.. what a powerful combination! Starting this year the two of them will join forces for a little project called The Hobbit! I repeat... THE HOBBIT!
Have you fainted yet?

The Hobbit ist the prequel to the famous Lord of the Rings cycle and in my humble opinion it is Tolkien's masterpiece. Peter Jackson has co-written two scripts because MGM plans on making two movies out of the classic fantasy novel with del Toro directing. Man, I am so psyched to see Bilbo's adventures!

For me, Peter Jackson has already proven his capability, because he turned the 3 The Lord of the Rings volumes into 3 crazy-successful movies (also as a co-writer of the screenplay),
and del Toro is highly talented in visualizing a story in a way that not only pleases the eye but also my passion for character driven storytelling (as writer and director in the outstanding Pan's Labyrinth).

Well, and most importantly he obviously has a soft spot for the fantasy genre! What's more to ask?

If I'm not mistaken, the cast of the LotR movies will participate in The Hobbit, at least Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Andy Serkis (Gollum/Sméagol) have confirmed their reappearance for The Hobbit.

The first part of The Hobbit will probably be released in December 2012.

Oh, and on a quick note: I was listening to Hybrid's Remix of Harry Gregson-Williams' "Man on Fire" while I was writing the first draft. Love that Lisa Gerrard! :)

Have a listen

...and Fire for all Things

The Art and Thought of Heraclitus: An Edition of the Fragments with Translation and Commentary

There shall be light. Check.
Oh, hi there! Yes, it's me, the ONE! The world revolves around me, how could you forget? If I'm not there, thinking about you, you do not exist, remember?

Well, I guess we all know these very deluded feelings of grandeur. Admit it! It just doesn't fit in our through and through egotistical apeheads to think we are not the most important person on the planet.

Thoughts like: I control everything, I set things in motion that will change the world. Mostly we don't even think about it, we just assume it is like that anyhow. Sounds familiar?

If I eat that piece of pie the world will never be the same again!
And technically, that's true.

If I eat that piece of pie, its state of existence changes into something else. It feeds me, thus giving me a high level of energy. And it transforms into something brown and wonderful on the way out of my system, to be precise. But, nonetheless, its essence is still around.

There is no loss of energy. As are we not lost when we die.

Constantly in transition to becoming something else or as Heraclitus would say:
You cannot step twice into the same river.

So, I still have to say Goodbye to my bestest brain when I depart some day, but hopefully I will be at least a nice meal for a cadaver eating worm who will then dissolve and make way for a nice tree, which, of course, is some other configuration of the thing called me, covered in leaves.

The tree will be cut down by someone who turns it into firewood, so I will give warmth to a person in need, but hopefully not to some rich bastard, who uses up wood for funsies. But if so, at least I'm not there to witness it. Thank goodness, I won't be there to see that.

Rhyme-Time

Hey there, my fellow human friends. I am in a poetic mood today, one of these really rare occasions, which enable me to write down something without constantly judging myself. I just did it! Here it is. Take a seat next to the lava lamp and enjoy!

The Stars, Like Dust

Ode to Asimov

Anything
That rhymes with me
Is welcome
To my world and we
Rather see you
Coming in
Than becoming
Someone who has been
A spirit, crushed
By stars, like dust
